A STORY A DAY : A GOLDEN TOUCH

Image
A GOLDEN TOUCH There was once a king who wished that everything he touched would turn to gold. His wish was granted by the passing fairy, and he ran around his palace turning all his belongings into gold. Vases, statutes, plates and even cushions were turned to gold as soon as he touched them. “I will be so rich,” he thought. Before long the king started to feel hungry. “Bring me some food,” he ordered his servant. But when the king picked up an apple, it turned to gold before it had even reached his lips. The king began to feel very sad when his wife tried to comfort him with a hug, even she turned to gold. “I never want to see gold again,” sobbed the king and he wished with all his heart for things to be back to normal again. Luckily the fairy, who had been watching all along, took pity on him. Everything changed back to the way it had been before. The king had learned his lesson and he knew that there were many ordinary things more valuable than gold!

A STORY A DAY : THE SAD PRINCESS

Image
THE SAD PRINCESS There was once a princess who never laughed. "Whoever makes my daughter laugh can marry her!" said the king, who didn't know what to do. Lots of hopeful young men lined up to try and make the sad princess laugh. First there was a joke-teller. "How do you tell which end of a worm is the head? Tickle the middle and see which ends laugh!" he said. But that didn't make the princess laugh. Lots of people tried, but nobody could make the princess laugh. The king had almost lost hope when he heard a very strange and unusual sound. "Ha, ha! Hee, hee! Ho, ho!" He hadn't heard it before, so it took him a while to realise that it was his daughter and she was laughing! The princess was looking out of the window at the man trying to make his donkey walk. He was pulling his donkey as hard as he could, and still the stubborn donkey would not move at all. The more the donkey refused to move, the more the prince...

A STORY A DAY : THE FROG PRINCE

Image
THE FROG PRINCE  Once upon a time there lived a princess who shone with such beauty that even the sun looked dim next to her. When the weather was hot, the princess would walk through the forest and sit in the shade by a stream. She took a golden ball to play with, and sat by the water, throwing it into the air and try to catching it.  But one day, her hand slipped and the golden ball fell into the water with a SPLASH! The princess sat there and cried, louder and louder until it sounded as if her heart will break. After a while, a wart frog popped his head above the water. "Why are you crying so?" he asked. "Because I have dropped my golden ball into the stream and I can't get it back," sobbed the princess.'' "What will you give me if I fetch your ball?" croaked the frog. "I will give you a lot of jewels, golds and pearls. If you bring back my golden ball. I will give you anything that you want," sniffed the princ...

A STORY A DAY : SEVEN RAVENS

Image
SEVEN RAVENS Once there lived a man and woman who had seven sons, but longed for a daughter. When their eighth child was a girl, they were very happy. At last their wish had come true. The beautiful baby girl was a thirstylittle thing, so the seven sons were sent out to the well to fetch water. "TAKE THIS SILVER CUP AND FILL IT FOR THE BABY," said their mother. But the silver cup was felt into the well with a SPLASH! The boys were too frightened to go home. When they didn't return, their father had cursed them, "MAY THOSE LAZY GOOD-FOR-NOTHING BOYS BECOME RAVENS! " he shouted. As soon the words left his mouth, he saw seven ravens flying off into the distance. Although he regretted his words, it was too late to undo his curse. When the girl grew older, her sad mother told her all about her seven ravens brother. The brave girl vowed to find them home. She set off, taking her mother's ring as a keepsake, and sear...
